We are accepting submissions for the ZFF Academy 2023 until Monday, July 24, 2023, 10.00 CEST.
Please read the information below carefully, before applying. Your application will only be processed if submission is complete and correct.
Applicants will be informed about the selection by the end of August.
Application Criteria
You will be eligible to apply for the ZFF Academy regardless of your age, as long as you meet the following criteria:
- You currently work as a director, producer and/or screenwriter.
- You have collaborated on at least one feature or documentary film or made, produced or written several short films or series that have screened at international film festivals. (There are no age restrictions).
- You are fluent in English.
- You have fully and correctly completed and sent the online application form on or before July 24, 2023, 10.00 CEST.
ZFF encourages applications from and gives equal access to all sections of the community.
Work Sample
The Zurich Film Festival guarantees that the work samples you send us will be used for the application process only.
Please send us one work from your filmography that you consider best represents you. Submit a link (Vimeo/Youtube/WeTransfer) to your chosen, full-length Work Sample in the online application form and write down the timecode for a maximum 5-minute excerpt from your work sample. If you submit a short film as a work sample that is no longer than 5 minutes, your whole short will be considered as your excerpt.
What is considered as a Work Sample? A Work Sample can be a feature-length film, short film, or series (incl. web series) in the field of fiction, non-fiction (documentaries, hybrid or other forms), animation, video incl. music video.
For directors and producers: A complete film that you have (co-) directed or worked on as a (co-) producer.
For screenwriters: A complete film that you have written. Please send us the film and not the screenplay. For an application, a cinematic work of your script must be available. Screenplays as such cannot be submitted as Work Samples.
Additional criteria:
- If the original language of the film is not English or German, then it must have English subtitles.
- Only one Work Sample can be submitted.
- Please note: Screenplays, Trailers, Teaser, Movie Reels, Clips from several films are NOT accepted as a Work Sample.
